The Unique Initiatives of the Schools where Teaching Takes Place in National Minorities and Lithuanian

The Department of National Minorities under the Government of the Republic of Lithuania organised a project presentation event for schools from the south-eastern part of Lithuania and other regions of the country in the concert hall of Vilnius Balys Dvarionas Music School on the 7th of December 2018.    

Pupils and students with their teachers from Vilnius city and Vilnius region, and from the towns of Visaginas, Šalčininkai, Trakai, Varėna, Kėdainiai and Ukmergė took part in the event. The students and pupils from schools of different regions of the country participated in cooperation activity projects to commemorate and celebrate the Centennial of the restored Lithuania from an artistic point of view. The participants of the event presented diverse nations and their culture, traditions, customs, history and the exclusiveness of their homeland by the means of diverse artistic forms. 

Students of Vilnius Balys Dvarionas Music School gave a short performance to the audience and the authors of best projects were awarded; letters of appreciation were gifted to all the cooperating schools at the end of the event. 

In order to strengthen the dialogue between schools from the south-eastern part of Lithuania and other regions of the country, the Department for National Minorities has financed 14 projects prepared by schools from these areas, where teaching takes place in Lithuanian, Polish and Russian. Twenty schools from Vilnius city and Vilnius region, and from the towns of Visaginas, Šalčininkai, Švenčionys, Trakai, Šiauliai, Varėna, Kėdainiai, Palanga and Ukmergė participated in the projects. Six nongovernmental organizations, which involved about 100 students and pupils, and five nongovernmental organizations, which involved children from South eastern Lithuania, have also received financial support. In total, in 2018, over 3,000 children have taken part in these projects.
