RU.DELFI.LT has started “National Communities at the Roundtable” project supported by the Department of National Minorities. The aim of the project is to tell the stories and highlight particularly sensitive questions related to the national minorities in Lithuania and to form some type of a platform for intercultural dialogue.

United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) examined 9th and 10th reports of Lithuania of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination during its 98th session in Geneva, 1 May – 30 April 2019.

On 30 April – 1 May 2019 the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination considered the ninth and tenth periodic reports submitted by Lithuania in accordance with the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.

The Department requested the Committee of Human Rights of the Seimas to include the International Roma Genocide Day into the list of remembrance days. Europe commemorates Roma Genocide Remembrance Day on the 2nd of August.

The 13th Bread Festival event took place in the House of National Minorities on the 1st of February 2019. The national minorities in Lithuania - Armenians, Byelorussians, Greeks, Karaites, Kazakhs, Latvians, Moldavians/Romanians, Russians, Ukrainians, Hungarians, Germans and Lithuanians – presented their national bread to the audience in a creative way.

The Department of National Minorities allocated partial funding for National Minorities’ Culture and Integration Centres following the recommendations of a Project Evaluation Commission. Overall amount from the State budget was 259 thousand Euros. The funding is to ensure successful project-related activity of the Centres in 2019.
